I recently posted that I moved from using Dropbox Paper to using Roam Research for taking my work notes. I’ve been using Roam Research for about 10 months and I love the app. I am an outline person by nature and love bullet points. I love all the / commands that are inherent with Roam Research like the built in Pomodoro timer. However, it is expensive at $150 per year. As my subscription period is coming to an end, I just cannot justify spending that on something I mainly use to take work notes.

Today I switched to Obsidian. I downloaded Obsidian months back when I first hear about it. I got up early this morning and after spending about 30 minutes on YouTube, I got around most of my hang-ups and have figured out (I think) of how I want to structure my notes and pages. I particularly like the seamless integration with Dropbox so I can access my .md files from my work computer (a Windows 10 machine) and my Mac. I can also read/write/create files from my IOS devices using 1Writer.

I think I will miss the Daily Log in Roam Research the Most in addition to the / commands and the simple outlining user interface. Plus, the back linking seems to make more sense to me in Roam compared to Obsidian. However, I do like having individual .md files per back link in Obsidian and just referencing to that document.
